Sheet of 20 stamps 140 years of the Sage type F5094 cancelled on the first day. Sheet of 20 stamps commemorating the 140 years of the Sage type, issued on the occasion of the 70th autumn philatelic fair. The block is sold in a crystal pouch, accompanied by a short text written by Gérard Désarnaud, member of the philatelic academy. Cancelled on the first day November 3, 2016. Print run: 40,000 copies. The 70th autumn philatelic fair celebrates the 140 years of the Sage type issued at the end of 1876, through 2 of its versions (inspired by the 1c and 5c) commonly called type 1 and type 2, known as "type N under B" and "type N under U". 1875 - the Third Republic is established. France has changed, a change also wanted by the Post Office administration. Ceres are no longer desired, as they are too politically marked and the face values are too difficult to read. A public competition is launched, which Jules Auguste Sage wins with "trade and peace uniting and reigning over the world". The engraving is entrusted to Louis Eugène Mouchon. When immersed in water, the punch breaks. Another matrix is engraved, but with the N of INV under the B of Republic, which will be used to print type 1 stamps. Finding it of lesser quality, Mouchon uses imprints of the original punch, taken before the accident, to make new matrices, which will be used as soon as new printings are necessary to supply the stocks (type 2, with the N of INV under the U of Republic). Stamps of different types will thus be issued in the same year.
